This blog post is to celebrate the Black authors who have given so much to the literary world, through their stories. These authors have collective won a number of awards for their amazing works in fiction.

FYI - Yes Black authors write about more then slavery.

Next time you’re about to say - “I don’t really know any Black fiction authors” pause for a second, and refer to this post.

ALICE WALKER

Alice Malsenior Tallulah-Kate Walker is an American novelist, short story writer, poet, and social activist. In 1982, she wrote the novel 'The Color Purple', for which she won the National Book Award for hardcover fiction, and the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.

other novels from Alice walker include - possessing the secret of joy, the third life of Grace Copeland, meridian plus more.

Octavia Butler

Octavia Estelle Butler was an American science fiction author. A multiple recipient of both the Hugo and Nebula awards, she became in 1995 the first science-fiction writer to receive a MacArthur Fellowship. After her father died, Butler was raised by her widowed mother.

Octavia E. Butler sadly passed at 58 on 24th February 2006. she left behind a number of amazing novels - Kindred, Parable of the sower, wild seed plus more.

ANN PETRY

ANN Petry was an American writer of novels, short stories, children's books and journalism. Her 1946 debut novel 'The Street' became the first novel by an African-American woman to sell more than a million copies

ANN Petry passed at 88 years old in 1997. Her work and stories still live on. her other titles include - The narrows, & tituba of salem village

Toni Morrison

Chloe Anthony Wofford Morrison, known as Toni Morrison, was an American novelist, essayist, book editor, and college professor. Her first novel, 'The Bluest Eye', was published in 1970. The critically acclaimed 'Song of Solomon' brought her national attention and won the National Book Critics Circle Award

Ton Morrison passed away in 2019 at the age of 88. she left some incredible novels behind - Beloved, Sula, home, paradise, jazz plus many more.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a Nigerian writer whose works range from novels to short stories to nonfiction.

Chimamanda was born in Nigeria in 1977, with 5 siblings. she studied in Nigeria, then moved to the united states at the age of 19 to finish studying at drexel university. her notable works Include- Americanah, half a yellow sun, and purple hibiscus.
